Project Leaders who become the CEO of the project demonstrate a level of ownership and personal responsibility that inspires the team and client towards project success. What type of resources/activities would you suggest to developing one's Executive Presence? How would I gather feedback?
Hi Cameron. First, here are a couple of resources:

Books:

- Executive Presence, The Art of Commanding Respect Like a CEO - Harrison Monarth
- The Second Circle, How to Use Positive Energy for Success in Every Situation - Patsy Rodenburg (This has some great activities for learning your inner alignment with your external presence)

Gathering Feedback:
I believe strongly in transparency & asking. Let people around you know you'd like to work on your Presence. Be courageous & ask what their experience is of you. What do they see that you do well? What in their experience of you might you improve? Then decide what elements of Presence you want to practice. Let them know & invite them to give you feedback on how you're doing & improving.

ANAND AHUJA: Question : How about one word - Integrity for all the three words - Authenticity, Courage, Trust or even Sincerity?
-----------------------
YES! Whatever words or language are appropriate for YOUR environment are the right ones.

For example, we worked with a client that wanted to have more accountability in their culture. That's the word we used.

When we interviewed their stakeholders and PMs, it turns out the word THEY used was "ownership." So, that's the term that made the most sense there.

To reinforce what we said: when you weave in the "project leadership/CEO" world into the "project management" world, you're intentionally deciding to bring in ambiguity, grayness, and complexity. Most people in technical/engineering roles crave 0/1 binary black/white answers and thinking. That's why we love project schedules and itemized lists. It's crystal clear. But trust, relationships, integrity, and so forth are very much subject to each person's perspective and worldview.
To add to Raoul's response, there are 2 perspectives.
1) Whatever language or words work for you is what's important for 'you.'
2) When working with a client, it's helpful to listen for the language THEY use. Too often we can get stuck in our own language, acronyms, etc.

As Nelson Mandela said, "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart."

Cheers!

RAMAKRISHNAN: Edgar Schein is one of the foremost authorities on the subject of culture. He's Professor Emeritus with MIT Sloan School of Management. His most recent book is Humble Inquiry: The Gentle Art of Asking Instead of Telling. It's a great resource for affecting culture.
