Balancing responsibilities is stressful.

This reminds me of a quote by Brian Dyson, former vice chairman and COO of Coca-Cola -

“Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them?—?work, family, health, friends and spirit and you’re keeping all of these in the air.

You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls?—?family, health, friends, and spirit?—?are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged, or even shattered. They will never be the same.

You must understand that and strive for balance in your life.”

:)
Great Quote Anupam! It should be remindered everydy that not to drop the other four balls

In essence, it's about prioritization. If you feel 'family' and/or 'me' time is important, you will make time for it.

As a project manager, organizing your work would allow you to plan away time also, especially if you have a backup resource to share some of your responsibilities, while you are away.

Eventually, taking time off becomes inevitable, because if you spend too much time working, your own health, relationship with family, friends starts suffering badly.

So, why let it come to that?

I admit that it is somewhat difficult but the project manager would have to strike a balance at some point. In my opinion, this should be per case as no blanket solution would work for all.

Work life balance isn't always easy. My current organization expects us to take calls on nights and weekends and be available 24/7. There are very few people that work at my organization that totally unplug from work when they go on vacation. It's very frustrating.

Don't think it is possible to balance work and life. You give some and take some. I think awareness is how time is spent is more important. Schedule time for fun and leisure.

I am sure that calibration levels vary as greatly as the number of individuals. With that said, it is best that the person understands what balance means for them. Defining what balance means individually has to be a priority. Maintaining the balance become less of an issue when you know what you want.

Just imagine extreme case of Life without work. Difficult isn't it
On the other hand work adds more LIFE to your life by giving you fame, position in society and a word of recognition which you can cherish. Just do not think of balancing it but prioritize them according to phases of your life.
