ok. I have qualifications in project management but l feel when it comes to planning out a project with a number of processes for improvement is it worth gaining a qualification in Lean Six Stigma to quickly identify the best tools to use to improve a process. My end Goal would be to work for myself as a consultant in PM rather than fulltime for a company

I don't think its needed to have both skills but it surely is an advantage to learn about quality tools/techniques/methodologies as well.
It helps you deliver with even better quality.

The more knowledge you have on a certain topic, the more equipped you are to deal with it. I see it as a learning, and growth opportunity. Good to have.

Knowledge never goes waste, and never decrease by sharing with others :)

If Process Improvement is a key component of your projects, then yes, the Lean Six Sigma knowledge would be beneficial. To demonstrate qualifications objectively, you should probably consider Certification, since you plan to work as an independent consultant

Samuel makes a good point: process improvement is usually the domain of initiatives, not projects. Usually the projects make use of the process improvements but are not responsible for driving them.
