Project Managers do not have to be knowledgeable in a particular industry for them to manage the industry projects. Which industry have you found more complex than the others. Can you rank the industries projects complexity?

It also depends on the project team and the stakeholders you are having to deal with in the organisation. If you have a strong team of lead engineers, technical experts etc. to support you then it becomes easier. If you are having gap fill for some of that capability then it becomes harder.

On other factor is project duration, I would be happy to pick up a say 2 year project in an unfamiliar industry, but would be reluctant to try to deliver a 3 month one.

That said, one exception I would make is the nuclear industry, I did look at a role there once and the level of regulation made the role seem unachievable for an "outsider".
