I used to hunt around for PDU opportunities such as volunteer opportunities and webinars, preferably free ones.
PMI now has it own volunteer relationship management system (VRMS) that you can use to be notified of opportunities.
Your PMI membership gives you premium access to projectmanagement.com. That means you can access the archived webinars. You can select the desired webinar based on the certification(s) you have and the desired education type.

The most important benefits that I've found as PMI member are:
- A reduced fee in case you would like to get some certification
- Publications as PMBOOK or other material.
- Premium access to this site (webinars, discussions, download material)
Regarding a local chapter, as far as I know, there are some chapters that are included with PMI membership, but there are others that you have to pay a little fee. Hello Bindu,
The PMI membership is not only a membership its an opportunity for networking within the fastest world wide growing profession. Also (which was the game changer for me joining the PMI) there are several resources used for the PM profession which are available to all members, just to mention a few;
- PMBOK
- All frameworks (OP3, Risk, Time, PMO,etc...)
- Several discussions and publications of more experience PM (e.g. white papers, news letters,etc...)
- Participation in several PM events
In addition if you are to consider any other certifications or associations in your professional development, PMI is recognized by several other professional associations, e.g. APICS which is one i'm currently pursuing for a Supply Chain certification, and all of my PDU from PMI could be used for the needed PDU for APICS.
If you got the time and PM is something you are developing I would strongly advise you to get involved with your local chapter, but also take advantage of all the other tools of PMI.
