Power of Influence and its impact on project, program and business success

Away form politics, and just learning from a press conference's ad hoc reply, During last week Obama press conference with prime minister of Singapore he responded to a news channel reporter question and used power of influence concept to influence voters to runaway from supporting their nominee.

What he did?

- Referencing: "Nominee attack on Gold Star Family"
- Confirming and highlighting: "This is not an episodic gaffe" this is daily and weekly ...
- Concluding: "Questioning the understanding to be able to occupy the most powerful position in the world president of the united states .."
- and Finally pushing for action "if you repeatedly have to say what said is unaccepted, then stop endorsing him ... "

How do you deal with Power of influence to achieve success in your project?

Are you taking the necessary actions in your project to make sure that positive influencing is encouraged?

and negative is discouraged and prevented?

Power of Influence if used properly it will return with positive results but many misuse this power in a negative way.

Well said Rami, its same as any Power if misused could result in negative and/or counter results.

Keeping an eye on the same will be a wise advise to avoid intention targeted harm using negative Power of Influence.

Stephane, you are right challenging into action is always a key success factor in influencing.

It's considered as the prize you get if you successfully influenced some one.

I am taking the necessary actions in your project to make sure that positive influencing is encouraged and negative is discouraged and prevented .

However it is a difficult task which needs convincing and making them agree for this.

A lot of Project Managers these days work in matrix environments, and I think the power of influence should be their default mode of leading. I like how John Maxwell states... Leadership is synonymous with influence, a key way you gain influence is by adding value to people.

I would recommend focusing on adding value to people, and let the influence follow

Power of influence is important, you need to find the proper degree to have a good/positive influence on project people. It need not to be improvise, you risk adding a statement that destroy everything that was prepare.
