Any thoughts on good project management tools out there? Our PMO uses microsoft project and microsoft project central, however, has found these tools to be too complex. I am looking for a resource management tool that can house multiple projects. Any input would be appreciated.

Interesting development... Project.net just announced that they will be Open Source. One of our partners uses the product for hundreds of projects and is quite happy with it. www.project.net

I figured this would happen eventually. Anyway, it might be worth taking a look.

If you are looking for a great collaborative PM tool, eProject is actually the first vendor to offer a web-based project management solution and has been doing it since 1997. They are considered a leader in this market space and consistently rank at or near the top.

Amy, we use quite a few PM tools throughout our organization and company. We have standardized on Microsoft Project Server for project and resource management, SharePoint for document management, and Processes On Demand for PM/SDLC/Change Management processes. [email protected]

I have created a new environment for people to discuss project management topics called the eProject eLounge. Once you have joined, you will be able to join in on our forums, blogs, upload and download files, search for jobs and other items. I really hope it grows into an interactive environment for project management excellence. Please check it out today at http://elounge.eproject.com.

Feel free to send this on to others and if you want to be invited in to blog as a PM expert, please let me know.

In reading alot of posting referencing Primavera products, they all reference old products not the newest offerings. Primavera offers true enterprise project management. Primavera offers it's Project Manager for hard core scheduling and project management, they have MyPrimavera, web base Project Portfolio management, resource management and collaboration and Expedition (Contract Manager). Primavera is the leader in Oil and Gas and Engineering/Construction for a reason. There tools can be utilized by the biggest projects to smaller project. Worth a look at their latest products, not 3 year old technology.

Hi All

I have evaluated all the tools listed above. To me Whizible [www.Whizible.com] looks very good. Its a company from India who have developed the product. As most companies in India are Service based, this product looks quite attractive to me from a Price point of view and also from a FLEXIBILITY point of view. We never had to change our culture after implementing this product. also it focus on DELIVERY rather than just reports.

My organization recently chose @task 4.0 for our project management needs. Although the application has promise, it seems hampered with too many bugs. The company has also not been all that responsive to my concerns so far. I hope to work with them to correct these issues, but I am currently worried that we will not get the resources from them to iron out all of our issues.

I work for a local government authority and we utilise Hydra Manager which I find is very good overall as every member of the Council uses it so I can grab resource on skills (all the usual junk), only negative is field size when recording information within tasks.

BUT I do have a problem which is the size of the projects we run require external companies to complete. These external entities always use different software forcing a large amount of PM-PM interaction just on administration of tasks.

I would have thought it possible to get a program to convert from one to the other, anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences?

We recently implemented a web based PM tool from programmexpress.co.uk it absolutely fits our current level of maturity; links with MSP, oututs reports in CSV or MDI formats etc. You can get people trained up on it in approx 30 minutes. etc.
However, it is not great at resource modelling or management - we are evaluating a number of products in that space and particularly like Innate's offering
