The PMBOK refers to Resource Breakdown Structure and Risk Breakdown Structure as both RBS. Will this not make misunderstanding sometimes? Better, except for the WBS and the OBS we use the full word sentences Risk Breakdown Structure and Resource Breakdown Structure.

Hi Markus,

It is ok but sometimes it is tiring with abbreviations .. someone might right to you within his or her context "PM" so you don't know whether it meant for project manager as a person or project management as a system or practice.

One of the biggest challenges when you decide taking the PMI´s PMP Certification is to deal with the abbreviations. And just in case you belong to a country where other language is using (spanish in my case) is a headache.

It is important to note in what context these acronyms are used.

Yes it may be tricky for someone who is new to project management practice. Providing full word sentences will be good option here.

Hi Farid

abbreviation needs to be used in a context to get the meaning .

We are not always talking to domain experts. We often communicate to a mixed public. There it is important to my opinion to not use acronyms but the full wording in order to be explicit and clear. This helps understanding and reduces the potential of misunderstanding and conflicts.

This is why I support Farid's idea

But suppose it is given in a context that is not sufficient to give the meaning? Sometimes we are givers and sometimes we are receivers

But Resource Breakdown Structure is not for human resources only, it includes other resources such as materials and equipments.
