I am looking for Agile Scrum Master certification. I see that a lot of institutes/organizations provide these certifications. I want to know which certification is most sought after. Could you share your thoughts please? PMI-ACP is one of the option.

Ask yourself a couple of questions.

What is your end goal?
Are you in an Agile environment?
Do you need to get up to speed quickly? (Company is agile and your joining an agile team)
Are you wanting to learn more about agile and different methodologies?

Scrolling through the different responses you can get a general idea from the fellow team members on the differences.

My take is the CSM which requires going to a 2-3 course is great (depending on instructor) if you have not been in agile environment. Typically, the coach/trainer will run the course in Agile so you have a feel for how it goes if implemented. As CSM myself and running agile in previous positions I would recommend going to the training. However, if you are new to agile read as much as you can before you go. Read the manifesto, read the scrum guide and other publications. It will help, so you not overwhelmed with the terms when you first start.

As PMI-ACP I thoroughly enjoyed reading (a lot) about the different styles rapid, scrum, kanban and putting myself in the mindset. As eluded to above this is mindset exam and you will need to go through the recommended reading list or at least part it to pass the exam. This is a good exam and material is you are running a PMO and want to start building agile teams. I do not believe a 5 day course will get you where you need to be to pass the exam.

The good news.....If you do the CSM and work in an agile in environment (or have) for at least 2 years passing the ACP will be relatively easy for you.

Hope this helps.

I recently completed the CSM certification. I attended the course provided by goodagile (www.goodagile.com). I found the course to be very good to get a basic understanding of scrum. I don't have any previous experience working in Scrum or Agile projects so the course really helped me. My objective was to get the certification so I can make the transition to scrum easily. The online exam is fairly simple once you understand the course content. If you are new to scrum / agile getting the CSM certification is a good option.

Just came across this post about Agile certifications by Mike Griffiths. It includes a summary of available certifications and methodologies covered.

Scott's questions are bang on. I am looking at CSM or PSM because some of our clients are asking specifically for SCRUM. None of our clients are asking for ACP.

I'd recommend you try SCRUM fundamental, it is free :)

It will give an idea about what SCRUM is, and you can do then an online exam and get a certificate.

If you are bit free, you can achieve the certificate in one or two day, at the same will get yourself familiar with SCRUM:
