I just read the article “How to find opportunities” from David Hillson
http://www.projectmanagement.com/blog-post...d-opportunities
I always find it difficult to motivate people in finding/searching for opportunities. Just wondering if you have some example of how you came to identify opportunities.
Thanks for sharing

Check for any issues/concern first. Be more like a mentor and coach than a boss. Make them comfortable & win trust. Understand if anything required to be addressed immediately.

Ask for short term /long term career plans, provide & reimburse any training/certification fee, recognize and give awards for performance, and job well done. Provide coaching, feedback on areas of improvement, annual bonus, incentive.

That is a lot of what I most often do Coach on why it's done. Providing training is a good solution, it depend on internal policies also.

What we make is not talking with people about opportunities or mainly risk in this situation. No pain, no agin. I mean, people have to perceive that they are more rich when getting something than without it. Here, "rich" do not means "money". So, my recommendation, is not forget that all people involved in a project are project stakeholders and they have to be included in the project stakeholder management process.

Yes Vincent your are right. Most people always sees the risk rather than the opportunity. For example when we loose a match , we may feel bad but then that is an opportunity for us to analyze and find our weakness and improve. We need to motivate people by talking to them about their strengths and potential. It is not easy but possible as I had been doing with my students over the years. Thank you.
