I have done some searching to see if there has been any discussion on agile project management as it relates to an aircraft maintenance environment. So far I'm not seeing much. Does anyone know of any body of literature or case studies, or even preliminary thoughts about how agile project management might apply to aircraft maintenance activities, where the act of conducting maintenance could be executed as a project?

If anybody can help you out, it will be Sergio.

Check out the article on Sergio's discussion:

I'm sure if you post on that discussion, Sergio will assist you in your search.

Thank you very much Stéphane. To be honest, I have never been involved in applying agile to aircraft industry. The only experience in something "similar" was in a stellite construction (hardware and software). But I have participated in a great numbers of courses with some of the "fathers" of agile software development methods where their explain the application of those methods (most becomes today in "agile solution delivery methods") in aircraft. The last one I have the opportunity to participate was with Mr Jeff Sutherland. Perhaps the following paper could help you: http://www.dglr.de/publikationen/2012/281384.pdf

Thank you Sergio and Stéphane for your feedback. I suspected the reason I was finding little is precisely that there isn't much out there in this space (yet). I suspect there might be more from a Kanban, Kaizen, Lean/Six Sigma standpoint for this space.

I know very well that the NASA and the USA DoD is working using agile methods in particular and agile in general. What I see (and is the situation I am living from years) is that much of the organizations that are using agile at any level preserve the information because strategical reasons. Agile is a matter or strategy. I am leading my seventh initiative on that field.
