I am executing a project where team is fragmented in 3 different locations (on same timezone). Can someone share any creative ideas on some team building/fun activities in this scenario.
We have video conference, regular bridges etc on our disposal.

Hi Prateek, my team utilizes video conferences to host fun team bonding events which includes; dancing competitions, process knowledge tests (just simple tests to check Team's understanding of basic stuff) with give-away prices and other fun stuff. I have planned a major one before across different time zones and can help if you want.

There is no alternative of meeting together for better team building, if your team is new better to plan a informal gathering for couple of days at common place where you will do team activities not related to work, will play various games, lot of talks and knowing each other and even team already exist such gathering must happen at least once in a year. Now a days you can form a whatapp group where you can share non work related material with each other may be sports, politics, entertainment or anything which will make your team good friend of each other. Hey Akshay, Yes we have a watsapp group where we have casual chats etc. However there is a need of the team building activity - I am thinking of a once a month frequency. Project budget and logistics don't support this frequency with co-location.
This leaves us with video conference. Now what all we do on video conference is something I probably need to explore.

I totally agree with Akshay .. It is the bestvway to build a new team then in the future you can utilize other means like video conference. Saving Changes...
Being the leader, you should visit each location once in a year so that your teams know you. It is very helpful, when people know you by face. Allow people to travel across the locations. We have team spread across three locations and we follow same process. It works.

Just try exchange program and have people across the locations for a short trip. It is not required to travel full team, just the people, who play the key roles.

You do not need team building activities to create a team. That is critical to understand in this type of environments. In fact, in the last 20 years I am working with teams with more than 200 people involved located around the world and as you can imaging I did not meet face-to-face more than 10% of that people. We need to understand that working in this type of environments demmand project manager to adapt when using process and tools. Saving Changes...
