Accidental Management vs Halo Effect vs Well deserved merit based position
Muhammad KashifDeputy Director| Government Abha, Assir, Saudi Arabia
Its been quite a while since i have been observing situation around me and some other organizations as well, most of us probably know about Halo effect when someone is preferred because others think of him as the right choice based on certain things like, native language or cross-domain performance or being liked by higher management etc, accidental management is the worst of all in my opinion and somehow related to Halo but with some limitations and more importantly it happens when no other option is considered and i have seen some extra ordinary well experienced people left out and ignored completely and those who do not deserve to be there even get higher sums than those who deserve to be there.
personally i think of these as major factors in damaging team's morale and decreased performance.
moreover , in my opinion it shouldn't be there at all, there are options to go through this and introduce someone who deserves to be there. Saving Changes...

Reality does not exists. It is a subjective matter that each human being creates from its own perception. When you work with stakeholders is the key thing to understand. The same as problem. Problem is the gap between the perceived reality and the desired reality. So as project manager you have to work on the stakeholder perception or you have to work on the desired reality or you have to work on the gap. All you think is your own perception of reality and your own perception about you have a problem. After that, you have to deside on creating your future or react to the current situation. At the end of the day, businesses are run by human beings and all the fallacies of humanity will be reflected in an organization. It is difficult to judge an organization by looking at every case, so one needs to take a more higher level view point of how does things happen generally in the organization. So if 60-70% of things happen through meritocracy, then the organization supports meritocracy. There will always be things such as management bias and frankly speaking it is not a bad thing. Every captain is more comfortable with a team that he understands and depending on the nature of the captain, the attributes which he expects in the team will vary. As an outsider we cannot sit in judgement on who we think merits a call or position in the team. What can be judged though is the results. So if an individual is able to deliver the results, then it really does not matter what one thinks about him as his work speaks for itself. Again the results we talk about here is from the perspective of the company and not based on an individual's judgement. Except for some direct relative or kith and kin of the management, most other people will have to show some results to move on, else at one level or other of the management, then will get nicked off as nepotism can only take you so far.
