There is so much confusion with ‘Agile’. What is your definition?

Commonly said words -

‘Agile is a mindset’
‘Agile is a methodology’
‘Agile is a process’
‘Agile is an approach’
‘Agile is a buzzword’
‘Agile is a waste of time’

The worst thing to do is to agree that one simple term has a definition for each person. After working with some of the "fathers" of agile I have seen that they agree on "agile is a way of behaive and thinking with focus in value to the client and quality". When you use agile you gain in agility which is "the ability to react to environmental changes and create environmental changes". And what is not: agile is not software or IT related only, agile is not a method or methdology, agile is not a life cycle, agile did not start with the manifesto, agile is not uncompatible with PMI and others project management practices. See USA DoD NSF/Agility Forum deliverables (1990, I was part).

Thanks Sergio. That's the best definition I have come across so far. I will put that as a note in my book.

You are welcome. If more people research and, understand what agile really is that will be good for people like me that are working with agile from the genesis

I like to describe Agile as a continuation of Lean practices, with a focus on eliminating waste in business culture, processes, documentation, and planning.

That's not entirely true, nor is it a real definition, but it seems to help some people understand.

If I need to summarize Agile in few words, it is about "Embracing the Change."

In any modern projects, we can't avoid changes. So definitely it is Mindset -Framework -- Practices --Tools that empower us to make deal with the changes, and be responsive to customers' needs.
