To make the certification exam you need required experience (different base on your scholarly), and project management training.
Your experience in interior design concerning project management certainly can count.
The new PMbok will mean a revised exam, If you have all requirement you should go forward and register for the exam.

It depends how much of a background you have in PM - In your case I would say 6 months of study.

after 6 months study in 6th edition book they will-not change the content so your advice to start the class (course) and buy the book by regesteration on pmi web
