We've seen so many recent examples of organizations violating ethical (and often legal) standards. It has led me to a fundamental question - Can one run a successful business by being ethical?

Thank you Paul for provoking some critical thinking on the subject of ethics. At the end of the day, as a business owner, I am responsible for the decisions I make about my business and I accept the consequences for those decisions. I felt the same way when I was employed as a project manager working for others; responsibility and accountability come with the territory. Of course some businesses can make money and stay open whether they are ethical or not. However, those are not the businesses I want to work with or for. My job satisfaction comes not from the money I make, but the people I work with. I choose to work with ethical people and businesses.
