It was just announced that our company will be moving from a functional to a matrix or projectized setup. They haven't figured out exactly how to do this or when yet. I'd like the team I'm on to propose their own plan and have a great transition. Any books or articles anyone recommends to make this process easier?

You might benefit by referring back to the PMBOK but first you need to decide is it projectized or matrix and if Matrix, what type of matrix.

I'm curios, how your company announced something, and they don't know how to do it. Maybe first decision an analyst will be your AS IS - TO BE organizational structure.

I too was wondering the same as Maria. Please keep us posted on the progress of this transition.

The owner announced this during a high level management meeting. The owner gave each business unit the task of coming up with the structure itself and decide if matrix or projectized is best. It will probably be a hybrid of both where some report to functional manager and some move to the project manager.

Supporting Maria comment above, it is critical to do that. I wrote an article about that time ago that was published by PMI and IIBA that perhaps help you. But no matter the tool you have to do that (my recommendation) (http://www.projectmanagement.com/blog-post...right-solution)
