Theory will open your eyes. It is too dificult to,perceive something if you do not know it.

Theory is excellent helper to shorten practice/experience need to get to a certain level!
With theory you could face a new situation with increase chance of making the right choice

Theory will give you a background and as Sergio said, open your eyes. Experience of others will give you practical examples and awareness.

The combination of both is the ideal situation.

Does it mean every practical experience should be preceded by theoretical knowledge?

Experience comes through applying the knowledge.

Theory is the foundation, a stepping stone, it will acquaint & equip you with knowledge required to perform and excel.

When the plan is not as expected, you learn practically.

Either way you learn, theoretically or practically, it will only add to your knowledge & experience.

Tricky question. None of the two are better than the other, actually hey compliment each other. Take the example of the German dual training; they learn the theoretical knowledge and apply it in the industry at the same time. They set an example to follow to many other countries, specially in the south of Europe.
