Bala S DuvvuriProject Manager| ShellBangalore, Karnataka, India
Hi all,
I am going to join a new company in the next 2 weeks as a project manager.
Based on your experiences what are the DOs and DONTs in the new company in the first 90 days to establish a mark of myself.
Bala, every company has its own unique set of guidelines. You should be getting welcome kit at the time of induction that contains handbook on DOs and DONTs. This will be common across the company.
If you are specific as a PM, I will say follow PMIs code of ethics and professional conduct. That's all you need. Saving Changes...

You have to understand the company life cycle. You can find it into the internet because is the same for each company. If the company is a new company its focus is to get money so forget in trying to implement a formal project management process. You cuold implement some practices but forget about to implement something formal.

When you join a new company sort of you restart yourself, you again need to prove yourself and reestablish yourself. In any new company you need to adjust in culture and in your new role. Better to focus more on work and not doing anything which you feel is unethical and people may develop any negative feeling about you.

I am thinking of 3 different areas
1.Building relationships - peers,manager,subordinates, other departments etc
2.Focus on work
3.Understanding the organization culture/politics
Anything else and please share your experiences in the above areas. Saving Changes...

Hi Bala, many things could be said, but I think one of the most important is to be an active listener. Focus on what is being transmitted to you as being most important to ensure and achieve, understand it well, learn the ways things work, identify the formal and specially the informal power in the organization, who does what and be collaborative and proactive. best of luck Saving Changes...

and of course understand the mission and objectives of the company, its values and challenges (normally there are opportunities in the challenges) :) Saving Changes...
