Methods for Requirement Gathering?

I've suddenly been given the role of project manager for a high visibility project. I have no formal PM training at all. My first step is to gather requirements but I don't know what the different methods are. Can anyone tell me what resources I can use to learn these methods?

Gantthead is a very good place to start. Review their whitepapers and as much of the resources as you can. Go to Barnes and Noble or other and purchase PM for dummies, or PMBOK, or such.
ElementK.com is an online training company that has PM classes that are not bad..of course it costs money.
