I manage a large team of Business Analyst who are interested in different certifications. I'm trying to understand the value add to the company that the certification brings versus the individual.

As you see, I own some certifications. PMI-PBA is one of them and I have the honor to be the first one in Latin America. I am saying all that tying to put on the table what a certification means to me. But if you ask me, to be honest, a certification will not garantee that the owner is a professional or the owner will help you to achieve your initiative objectives. The only way I found along the years to convince the organization about the need to work with prople that owns certifications or to pay certifications to people is for a organizational image reason. It has to be an strategical reason that demostrate it will add value to the organization.

PBA is not much popular. It may take time to convince on the value add and get the support.

Some companies do, others don't. It depends on the nature, size and line of business for the company. In principle, I agree with Sergio.

The reality is that PMI-PBA has been in market for less than 2 years but has recently surpassed 1,000 certification holders. This is excellent growth for a new credential. If you are comparing PMI-PBA to other BA certifications I encourage you to do your homework, and the analysis, not only on the credential but the association that owns the credential. PMI's investment in Business Analysis surpasses any other organization. I also encourage you to join us for the Business Analysis Virtual Conference on Nov. 2nd (Live) or On-demand (after Nov. 2) the emphasis will be on Business Analysis adding Business Value!
