A thought I have been mulling over with the possibility of transferring the idea to a new business:
The IT industry has an ordinary reputation within many business circles for, shall we say, not acting with utmost integrity in regards to hidden costs and continual budget blowouts.
Just seeking your thoughts on the possibility of having a specialised third party Project Management team to oversee the analysts and technicians contracted from another organisation. This separation would ensure the Project was not run solely by one organisation and would thus reduce the possibility of unscrupulous operators milking the Project for all they can. This would be especially pertinent if the organisation providing the Project Management function was built on the premise of ensuring the utmost integrity at all times and, for lack of better words, provided an audit function implicit in the Project Management servce offered.
Not only would this assist in financial aspects of the Project, but also in time management as the Project Managers' sole priority would be to get the Project done to the highest possible standard while regretably some consultancy organisations have other motives in stringing out a Project or recommending a particular software application etc.
I would be especially grateful if anyone could offer up some constructive thoughts on 3rd party Project Managers for a development team from another organisation, in particular the downside to putting both parties together. Indeed this function is probably already offered in some areas and I would be interested to hear if it has been successful or otherwise.
Yes there is potential, since I've just been offered a contract to serve as a PM for a startup that does not feel the need for a full time staff, but someone to help them lay out a trackable plan and help them track it. Saving Changes...
I should point out that the effort I mentioned in the previous post involves a far-flung set of third party resources, so co-location and intimacy with the team is less of an issue than it might otherwise be. Saving Changes...
