Project do not change the world. The product/service/result that the project deliver could change the world if and only if is delivered as defined.

Projects are "powerful" if the result has a great impact on the largest number of members in a society. Just my two cents.

Projects are powerful because each project is unique and the end result of each project can add value to the world in many ways such as employment opportunities, enhance technology, increase affordable living options (In Construction), and so much more.

Projects might be considered "Powerful" in case that they continuously provide the participants or organizations with the desired or unplanned improvement through keeping updates of the lessons learned. First project might fail and second too. But I believe finally they will succeed some day in case of lessons learned valid and powerful to them

What makes a good (powerful) project? Few things to consider - What’s the project purpose? Is the project meaningful & relevant? Is the given time sufficient to plan, execute & deliver? Project complexity, accessibility, & stake few other essentials to ponder.

Projects are undertaken to meet an entity’s strategic goals. The entity could be an individual, organization, group or a country. They are temporary in nature and have specific objectives and goals which are aligned to the entity’s vision. They act as a stepping stone in shaping the future of the entity. By virtue of these attributes, they command utmost dedication from the people who drive the project. In effect, this single minded commitment exerts a strong influence on the surroundings and/or environment and make projects powerful.

I'd say that Project Management is powerful. The outcome of a project does not have to be necessarily powerful.

To piggy-back on Rami's comments. I find that projects, being unique, are great toosl to stimulate creativity and innovation.
