There is a change in policy regarding use of the 15 minute tutorial before the start of an exam.

You are no longer allowed to make notes on scratch paper during the 15 minute tutorial. One must wait until the actual exam begins to make any notes.

Anyone else aware of this? Please confirm.

I just checked the PMI PMP Handbook, which was revised on September 29, 2016. I don't see any reference to no writing during the tutorial.

The closest reference would be that you will be provided testing aids, inbcluding "Writing materials for taking notes during the examination." (p.30). You could read that to mean that notes can only be taken during the examination and not during the tutorial.

There is nothing that explicitely states you cannot take notes during the tutorial (p. 31)

Hi Everyone, I called Customer Care. It is highly recommended you call them directly if this is not clear. I have been informed there was never a 15 minute allotment before the exam to do a Brain Dump. This was an informal thing. I was referred to the PMP Handbook which I am told mentions nothing of a Brain Dump. I was informed it was never enforced for the testing candidate go right into the exam, and then if they felt the need to create a Brain Dump; it would be part of or time would be taken from the 4 hour exam duration. PMI and Prometric are now enforcing what has always been there. The Brain Dump if you choose to create one will have to be created during your 4 hour exam duration.

In other words, the tutorial time comes out of the overall exam time. The tutorial does not give you any extra time. You can choose to do what you want during the tutorial, you'll still be taking time away from the exam itself.

Stéphane, this is not how I understood the tutorial time. I believe you will have the tutorial time; but you will not be allowed to do a Brain Dump at this time. The tutorial time is separate and will not count toward in the entire examination time. Once the clock starts for the examination duration, you can then create a Brian Dump if you choose.

Hi, One of my student appeared for the exam in 3rd week of October. He wanted to create the brain dump but Prometric disallowed him to do so. He asked for the reason and was told that they have received instructions from PMI. This happened in Prometric center in Gurgaon, India but I suspect Prometric worldwide would have received the same instructions.
