The bottlenecks in such situation is more political rather than technical. Applying the PMP Processes might not be as much of an issue but the issue will be how to apply them properly and without any conflict because the major bottleneck you'll have is Communication.

Hope this helps.

It not should be difficult depend on how you manage communication on that organization.
Bottlenecks? probably on human resourses allocation and negotiation.

Thank you Nohely Colina, how should the project manager operate so that the project success does not suffer because of resources allocations and negotiations ?

Actually I work for a weak matrix organization as Project Cordinator, what I could recommend on that :
1) first at all use a Portafolio ranked by Project Business Value (If you can use economical values it is best!)
2) negotiation for resources must be pre-compromising results.
3) Efficient Planning and Proactive Risk Management based both on Lesson Learned
4) Be prepared for disadvantages of weak matrix organizations on each negotiation, prepare your case as a best Lawyer!

Hope this could help!

The bottleneck will be with the organisation, getting ressources, etc. Within the project PMBOK should not be a problem.

Is the same no matter the type of organization. I will assume that you are talking about project management process as defined inside the PMBOK. So, the grade of complexity is the same including projectized structures. The type of organization is not a meassure for that while inside the PMBOK I think is a good explanation about what you will face depending on the type of organization. But it is an academic explanation only and mainly focused on project manager power.

I agree with Sergio. The grade of complexity is the same.

For a project manager, it might not be easy to effectively apply all tailored processes to the project in a weak matrix structure since a project manager has limited power to decide on any project issues, resources etc... Even though a project manager is considered to be a good leader of the team, the power given to him is too limited to demonstrate such a leadership. So IMHO, a weak matrix might be one of major constraints during project life cycle.
