With the incredible pressures to get results under very challenging constraints, it's hard to lead with servant leadership. Bad behavior in project management is an issues everywhere.

I'm proud to have an article published in the United Arab Emirates national newspaper – the National Post. http://tinyurl.com/znjq9sw

It's about workplace bullying and how to deal with it. Workplace bullying is a global issue that is being talked about everywhere. The impact on our projects, people and organizations resonates from the bottom to the top. Let’s take a stance and stop workplace bullying!

I think the best thing, though not easy, is to eradicate bullying at school.

If you want to remove bad habits, like fighting, from a team sport must start in the younger leagues to habituate the children to not incorporate the unwanted behaviour early on.

As long as we have children who bully and are bullied at school, these behaviours will move up into the workplace with them as they grow older.

Thanks Stephane. I completely agree - like any change that requires new thinking, it will take time. Starting with our youth is a great place to begin.

Congratulations Paul. Thanks for sharing. This is a great post.
Your article is thought provoking, and answers some burning questions.

I agree on most of the reasons, especially focus on results, and lack of effective policies.
Just one question, is this related to specific environment or is common across the globe?

Thanks!!

Hi Aunpam. Thanks for the feedback. Sadly - workplace bullying is a global issue. While some countries (the EU, Australia, New Zealand and parts of Canada) have passed legalization making it illegal, much of the world has yet to take such a bold step. Some argue that it's industry-specific or worse in come cultures than others. However, I've heard stories from every industry and many countries.

From the Middle East to America to India, the problem continues.

Paul,

Your answer to Anupam's concern triggered a question in my mind:

Work bullying is indeed worse in some industries more than other (Like Construction) and in some cultures more than others. From your experience, what factors play a pivotal role in making bullying worse in some specific industries and/or cultures ?
