At present there are no part time or freelance job in Project Management but it is unexplored open field. There are many small companies cant hire full time PM or have lot of problem in project due to minor project management related issues can buy such ideas. A free lance project manager can streamline project can fix scope, budget, roles , responsibilities, schedule etc. For research I think some kind of survey can be conducted with small and medium companies, number of projects they are executing, typical problems etc.

I've been working since 2013 as a freelance in Europe and in USA. From my professional career development point of view was amazing. I was completely free to choose the project that I would like to lead, where I wanted to work, if I wanted to travel or not.
Became a freelance is an exciting experience, BUT (there is a but in capital letters), you should manage properly your income and your mind, because maybe you will not work during 12 months a year and you should plan what you will do during your "free" time.
In order to start, I recommend you to contact local or global companies that provide Project Managers to the clients.
Let me know if I can help you in something else.

Thanks Maria.
Could you please tell more about your experience? I mean the type of project you were involved, your role & responsibilities, did you worked virtually from home, or relocated to client site, benefits & challenges.
I am preparing a presentation on this, and your inputs will certainly help.

- Type of project. Basically SAP upgrades, full implementation or roll-outs.
- My role, I've started as a Team Lead, Project Coordinator, Cut Over Manager and Project Manager. My responsibilities have been increasing as my knowledge increased.
- Usually, I've worked at the client's site, but I've managed virtual teams, as ABAP Developers in India, Argentina or Brazil. Core IT Team was always on site.
- Benefits: From my point of view, most important is freedom to choose. I've worked in a BIG5 IT SAP companies and I've never been available to choose the client or the project, for example, if I led projects in the cell phone or electronic companies, I was leading during a lot of years these type of client. During my freelance experiences, I choose from beauty customer retail, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and other different business types.
Holidays or Vacations: As I freelance I always try to enjoy vacations after one Go-live, like this I'll start fresh the new one, and I can ensure you that generally is more than I month, I used it for travel or formation.
- Disadvantages, there are some big disadvantages most important are due to the periods that I'm without assigned project. First of all is no income, second sometimes there was too much free time that luckily, I try to plan it in advance for formation, congress or other project management activities.
A Few days ago, a hiring manager described me as a job-jumper, and I answered that I'm knowmad ...Buzzwords! lol (I'm working on a blog entry about it)
Some companies or countries don't understand or aren't prepared for freelance Project Managers, and ask too many questions about the periods without the project or they prefer specialization in only one kind of business.
Let me know if I can help in something else.

Ideally, you want some pre-established business connections when going freelance. Make sure you have at least one customer lined up before you strike on your own.

Sure! This is the basic one.
When I've started was because I have an offer on my table.

My PM focus is in IT and high speed optical networks. but I will take smaller IT projects. Where can I go online to see projects from sponsors that are available? Do you have to have a set of templates and tools on hand? How to you advertise your brand?
Many questions, and I apologize.
