I'm site engineer working at king Khaled university located in Abha -Saudi Arabia and I always planned to obtain (MPM) from abroad after I got BC DEGREE .
so I started self-study with (HEAD FIRST PMP) book as the first step and to practice what I studied at the project , but I'm confused most of the time about , when should I start to obtain the master ? ( is that the proper time )
and what's the requirements to enroll college ? (are the BC degree and TOEFL score enough or there are other requirements )
also confused about , should I get PMP exam first ?
and the main one is , the (MPM) worth the time and cost ? Saving Changes...

Hello Kareem,
can't say much about the MPM part cause i didn't have any knowledge about that.
But you asked to maybe obtain PMP first.
Well, PMP is a certification for professional, what means you do need a bunch of experience hours as an application requirement for PMP.
With a bachelors degree you do need 4.500+ expereince hours over the various project management disciplines.
I would assume that you do not have that experience yet (may be that is wrong).
Regards,
Markus

Thanks a lot, Mr. Markus
you make it clear to me . it's not just about the 4,500+ hours required for the exam because I'll reach to those hours in couple months but through my current work position I can't get into all project tasks to achieve the required experience for the exam , so I think CAPM will be more suitable for my running work position
thanks , Mr. Anupam
those links were helpful also .

My suggestion will be to do Master Degree in Business Management and after completion of required experience better to do PMP. This will give you better career.

I appreciate your suggestion and I searched for it ,
but I found it's more likely pursue MBA.
I think MBM and MPM have a diffrent prespective , is that right ?

Kareem, I agree with Markus. However, if you are willing to do MPM, then you need at least 5 years of experiece (It is not a requirement) in order to benefit from this masters program and usually PM Masters program depend a lot on practical experience. Good Luck.

I know that practical experience is required , but this is the situation : I have 2+ years experience in a contracting field and I faced a few of management processes but I can't gain more from my current work position and I believe that's normal but most of the contracting companies here in middle-east have some issues about career ladder ( not all of them )
so maybe it takes extra 5 years to gain more experience and it'll be not enough also because it takes more than that time to fit in the position allowed you to have that practical experience you're talking about .
that the reason makes me willing to do MPM
still need your advice
thanks again ,

I concur with my colleagues above: the PMP is more relevant when practicing the profession. If you plan on practice project management, then PMP makes sense. If, on the other, your focus is on graduate education, then the PMP will not likely add a lot and may even interfere. (Don't forget that once you get your PMP, you have to get PDUs to maintain it.)

As the holder of both a PMP and a Masters of Project Management (MPM) degree, I would say that they aren't exclusive, and can be complimentary. I got my PMP first (a long time ago), and was therefore able to use the masters coursework for PDUs.
I encourage you to pursue all the education that you can as I think a life of curiosity and learning is always exciting.
