During "Black Friday", retailers offer deep sales and discounts. Knowing that a store may be legally responsible for what occurs on its property, what do you think are the "black friday" project risks the storeowners face and how would prepare for it?

Very Good Question Mauro - I can't think of anything other than Exchange Rate. Like for example, a lot if people from Canada used to go to the outlets in the states to buy clothing but now, with the exchange rate difference, they don't anymore and the contrary is happening.

Based on the history data, people buy similiar things at this day each year, like clothing, and something with big discount(Maybe no use, only cheaper), so prepare more goods for that day.

Another risk is security, you can image lot of people crush into the store, I think one of the risk response method is online shop, you provide same price, and free ship.

The biggest risk is an unmanageable number of clients. You should take actions to deal with larger number of customers: security, in-store displays, entrances/exits, ...

Stéphane,

I believe you are already aware of the India’s Rs 500 And 1000 demonetization. Though there is no Black Friday here, but the situation is somewhat similar - unmanageable number of clients.

Actually, I was not aware of this, Anupam. You made me curious and found this interesting article on it:

I can see how it would create a similar effect to the US' Black Friday.

Store have a knowledge of what people rush for on Black Friday. They should place it at the front and increase security there.

Black Friday? I've just seen an advertisement that some shops will open on Thursday at 5pm. I'm shocked, I'm not American, but as far as I know Thanksgiving dinner is one of the most important family dinners on the year. If they will open, it means that some workers will not enjoy this dinner, that people will not share time with their family because they will be in a line or pushing people during hours to get a 50 dollars rebate....

In this case, the main risk is that people like me will decide to don't go on Thursday in order to keep Thanksgiving as is.
