Meeting the deadlines

As a PMP certified project manager, you are responsible for meeting the deadlines. You realize that your project deadline may slip due to the delay in obtaining a resource. Even if you miss the deadline there is no penalty.

What is the first thing to do in such situation?

I would document a risk, with a full evaluation of the impact (cost, time,,,reputation) to make sure stakeholders see the impact of that missing ressource.
