Process Heirachy

I am defining a process heirachy structure and am looking for a little help.

We have 3 levels of process decomposition.

High Level - An end to end cross functional view of a product. Typically the lifecycle of a customer using that product.

Detailed level - A breakdown of each of the elemts in the high level to produce individual processes for each department.

Work Instructions - How to use a peice of equipment or software.

The business struggles with this concept and I am now questioning what value it adds and whether we should abandon the high level.
Also, I am not sure that this structure is right.

I have attached a file (High Level) to help illustrate what I mean. In many cases, there would be more than just the one group on the process map which helps to define the resonsibility of certain activities.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Kendall, your process mapping technique lends itself to IGRAFX a process simulation toolkit.
There is nothing wrong with the 3 tier process concept. The real issue is correlating current processes to existing deficiencies and proposed processes to organizational goals and objectives in addition to other quantifiable improvements. Without this correlation they are merely maps that offer little value.
I would be happy to send you a complimentary copy of my book "The Helix Factor" which goes into detail on the alignment processes to strategic goals and objectives and much much more. Just email me your address.
Cheers
