How one should begin to learn the actual risk management that is prevalent in supply chain industry?
Further, will learning and publishing papers on the subject will be helpful in anyone's career?

Thanks and regards,
Abhijeet Singh

Interesting
You are asking how to learn then you ask if you publish about it - to publish you have to know. Either I do not understand what you are asking or I am missing something.

First of all, thanks for showing concern for my doubt. My doubt was whether presenting some papers will be considered as a valid reflection of skill in risk management, despite the fact that mostly theoretical knowledge is reflected in published papers. I think working as an executive in risk management and proving self on theoretical forum are different things.

I'd suggest reading articles and case studies, besides recognized books in the field. From the first you will learn about real situations and from the second the theory.

Regarding paper publication, I consider them relevant in two points: 1) you will put in practice your skills to evaluate, synthesize and present knowledge, from you own experience or observed situations; 2) you will make yourself visible to the market and your peers.

And about the comments you will receive, either good or bad you will learn something to improve future papers.

Hello Sir

Respected Publishing (when you talk about papers - the assumption is that these would be professional or academic papers) is usually based on real experience and case studies - or based on research.

People can also publish blog posts and articles based on reflections or opinion or observations.

Each of those platforms of publishing has value, if written properly - and i mean language and content.

If you want to publish about something - where you do not have experience and only theory - you can make sure to state that in your article and people will understand and respect the open approach. However, if you publish something using language to present you as an expert, if you are not, can lead to damaging your reputation.

Now - your other question. How do you learn? Read and Practice. Find a mentor

Thanks for the prompt reply, Sir. Indeed you have completely answered my query. In fact, this answer of yours can be used as an important advice to young practitioner, like me. Further, you have just given me an idea that I should publish some case studies in some reputed publishing house. By doing so, I will be able to share my experience with others and learn a lot about the subject matter.
Thanks one again Sir.

Hi Abhjeet,

Mounir is right with his point of view and it is a good advise.

Risk Management can be taught theoretically but that alone is not enough at all. You need to have the practical experience because this is what counts most when it comes to risk management.

Hope this helps - Good Luck.

Hi Adhijeet,
I work in risk management, for years, but didn't start there. You can start in many part of project management then get to Risk. Reading on the subject will get you more knowledgable. From your experience in project you'll be more and more ready for risk. You might want to look at knowledge in statistics also.

There is many path to risk management, One a young guy was put in a risk management role, is youth didn't make it look "serious"

Abhijeet,

Why don't you submit your content for review to local chapter? Also, you can network with local PMs for guidance, mentoring, etc. We had a session last month, and it was really worth.

Thanks!
