The same way it's helpful in gmail, facebook messenger, and all of the best messaging apps...graphic communication. A better user interface.

Would be a nice touch, from a UI perspective.

There are additional features that could add value to the site, while providing a better experience for the community ... favorites or bookmarks, @mentions, save for later, ...

Truthfully, the platform itself seems to be more so the restricter. It'd be interesting if the community moved to a more social platform, for example, Jive, offering those types of features out of the box.
