I'd like to ask this question to the project management community both in relation to online tools and IT implementation strategies to see whether indeed our lives are now much simpler and projects are much cheaper using on line resources... Share me your thoughts and experiences using Desktop applications on line or using Cloud for processing power. Thanks!

Noemi, more complicated? I was thinking in easier...for example cloud solutions, allow us to share project documentation in an easy way.

Maybe it depends on your role, isn't? It means if you have the "power" to chose the tool in your company, will be more difficult because you'll have each day new options, new technologies...
Totally agree! AI and IoT will help us deliver results in the near future.

Liana - I am in violent agreement with your statement "There are even more dependencies and moving parts ..." but not sure savvy PMs are the right place to hang successful cloud strategy implementations. Savvy architects or devops folks for sure, but when a PM steps over the line into what clearly is the domain (and ultimate responsibility) of most IT organizations you're headed for trouble.

I speak from the hard learned experience of a former architect/developer that can hold his own with any technical stakeholder, but in the role of PM have had my hand slapped for even suggesting a cloud solution without 1st vetting (selling) the idea to IT. And even then, it is usually up to IT to own the details behind design, configuration and administration of a cloud strategy.

The exception to this is when IT says to the business - "if you want to use a cloud solution by yourself, go right ahead, but don't expect support or help from us." In these situations, a savvy PM can indeed be instrumental in helping the business successfully navigate the waters, but implementing a point solution is different than deploying an overarching cloud strategy.
