Is the CAPM respected in the industry? Or is it PMP or bust?

I have been studying the PMBOK in preparation of sitting for the PMP exam. However, as I look at the PMP application I wonder if I should go for the CAPM instead. I have worked as a functional manager for the last 4 years leading some industry related projects and participating on many more. As I look to shift to project management would a CAPM be valuable?

The PMP certification is focused on project managers, professionals with managerial experience in the different areas of a project. CAPM certification is best suited for future project managers, late-career students, or directors less experienced.

Nowadays both are based on PMBOK 5th Edition, and you'll need a full understanding of it.

The PMP exam lasts 4 hours with 200 questions while the CAPM exam lasts 3 hours and consists of 150 questions.

I'm with Rami and Stéphane, if you have the requirements for PMP, why not? Will be only 1 hour more and 50 questions, not a big deal. and PMP is more recognized.
Totally Agree with your comments, Mayte!
