I’ve just received an internal promotion to project manager after several years in my department. The company will be providing training, but I’d like to start learning as much as possible about PM duties and functions, and especially about how to use any special software or computer tools, since those worry me the most. Aside from gantthead, are there any other learning resources online, free or otherwise, that you have used the most and found the most useful? I’m not clear if I’d benefit most from tutorials, simple how-tos, or advice columns. I’m very interested to know what’s helped others. I appreciate any recommendations!
You may try the pm product from www.advancedtier.com which i just found recently very applicable to our organization. There is actually a live demo there where you can try. But you can look other pm softwares that suit for your need. Here's the directory link: http://www.infogoal.com/pmc/pmcswr.htm Saving Changes...
If you email me directly, I'd be happy to send you my favorites file that lists websites that offer free templates, articles, lessons learned, etc. All deal with IT project management.
I'd post directly here but there are over thirty sites that I've collected in the past two or so years. Saving Changes...
Thanks all, so much for all the leads! I?m aware of pmi and pmboulevard. I expect all sites have their strengths and weaknesses. The only other thing I'm wondering is, is there a particular site that has helped you the most and, if you have a moment, what was it about it that you found the most useful?

For the functions and duties part, it varies from organisation to organisation but the link below gives a good structured general methodology.
