7 things a newbie should know about Project Management?

If in 2017 someone wants to start a career path in Project Management, what are the few advises you would give him.

What are the 7 things you think he/she should know about the reality of been a PM.

This is a personal answer, it might be helpful to someone out there, and as I said, if you do wish to share, answer as if you were speaking to your younger self.

1) You will be responsible for smooth running & result of project but you may not have required resources, authority and power to get certain things done 2) Enough budget may not be available in most of the cases 3) Government and other agencies will not bother your schedule or budget, they will do things as they want, this may create huge disturbance in project.4) Key resources may leave at some critical time 5) Many time unplanned things will be forced by higher ups which may not be project priority. 6) There may be scope changes and new demand from clients without additional payment 7) You might have irregular schedule and excess working hours, many times you may miss your week ends.

Akshay - Sounds to me like PM's ought to be like magicians, work with low budget, with no time and with constant changing of scope. Great Job we have.

3. Making optimum use of templates & resources
4. Delegating responsibility
5. Being a good decision player
6. Recognizing team
7. Following best practices
