Project Management Software

Just a question about what kind of tools people out there use for scoping, establishing schedules, and tracking progress.

We're using a heavily customized Excel worksheet system at my work, but it's lacking in a few key areas, like proper dependency tracking.

I've used MS Project for doing big block planning early on in the project, and also for planning out a month of intensive work with many cross-dependencies, but I just find software changes too much to use it as a day to day, or week to week, tracking tool. Even with auto-leveling off, it's sometimes so hard to move things where you want them, or get it around the idea of someone working over 100% for a period of a week, but not permanently.

I'd love to find something with the visual representation of a Gantt chart, with dependencies and a decent ability to move tasks around, but also where the user still has ultimate control and can override the software if I need to.

Anything good out there?
