Hello All,

Do you see a very promising future for project managers with subject line mentioned skills.

It came to my mind as I see the PM world evolving from not only managing project but now being part of making valuable decisions based on business and data.

Would like to hear from you if you are currently part of it or are seeing such transition around you as well.

thanks

First of all, a project manager do not need skills on something technical. What she/he needs is knowledge. On the other case a project manager will end her/his project management life inside a niche. If that is the decision no problem with that. Second, business analysis and project manager are complement but are totally different roles in focus and in scence. Obviously lot of people like me have performed both roles from years (business analysis role formally started in 1990) but both are totally different roles. Third, what today is named data analytics is outside there from years before 1990. It is a component (or layer) inside a Data Warehouse environment. So, except for the difference between project manager and buisness analyst, nothing new below the sun.

And I know that some people do not agree with my first statement. They are welcome. Thanks God (or any other force in the universe) nobody owns the truth.

As Sergio pointed out, many individuals that are PM's previously worked as a BA, and whereas the two roles are complementary, they are still separate. On some projects I work both positions, but they are entirely different roles with different responsibilities and expectations.

It seems many organizations still will combine the two roles into a single position; Hiring a BA that is also expected to be a PM, or vice versa. They, especially, would look for a candidate to have experience in both areas. But still, even in this situation, the roles are distinct. That is the important factor here, the roles, although sometimes performed by one individual, are still two separate roles.

Don't confuse the position. Your subject line should be concise. The CV will tell the story.
