I will assume that you are talking about software tools. It will depends on the work. You can find tools that support the enterprise analysis, other requirements management, etc. The best it will be an integrated tool. In my case, we are using Enterprise Architect with Zachman plugin.

Thanks Sergio and Anupam for your comments.

@Markus - I read about both, PMI-PBA and CBAP. I understood that PMI-PBA covers BA from project perspective, whereas CBAP covers it from organization perspective. So after talking with peers and seniors getting it from organizational level is more beneficial.

please let me know if my understanding is not correct.

Saurabh: what you stated is not right. IIBA and PMI has the same vision about the business analyst. The books (up to march 2017) to study for the certification are not the same because CBAP has a BOK to study. About what are more beneficial, is a matter of market demmands. In my case, I have both.

Hi Sergio,
Maybe it should be a different discussion but what is the market demand for CBAP vs PMI-PBA?

VIncent: I do not know about market demmands. In my case, I made my own estimations based on my information. No more than that.

I agree with Anupam. And a BA must master Visio. Tools for building UI mockups and managing requirements will be helpful.

I would also become acquainted with leading project management tools because you will be called upon to manage projects.

Specific recommendations may not be helpful because your employer will dictate the tools you use. That's why it's best to have some exposure to the top tools. For instance, MS Project is a major tool, but none of the companies I've worked for in the past 7 years used it.

Thanks all for your valuable discussion on this topic.

@ Sergio - Yes I might be wrong in my understanding about both of the certifications. I made comments based on some of the readings those I came across when looking for these certifications. But thanks for clearing my doubt. I will rethink about the same.
