Most of the success and excellence found on some project teams is due to the maturity of the participants. When people become so mature as to understand teamwork for the benefit of the project as oppose to personal benefit they become a real asset to the organization.
Unfurtunately, we are still living in a selfish society driven by greed and opportunism and consolidation of a mature team is always the exception not the rule.
Still, there are ways to consolidate a team if some ground rules are encourage and support by corporate management from inception to completion.
Some of these rules:
Finding professionals willing to share their knowledge with everyone regardless of the framework they may found themselves in.
Establishing a clear understanding on team results as the only measure of success.
Creating the right working atmosphere for people to develop their skills.
Advising the team participants they were selected because of their recongnized maturity and capability to do teamwork.
