I am pursuing my Master's in Project Management, and one of my assignments is to conduct an interview with a Project Manager with international experience. As I work in the US military, I do not interact with PMs in the course of my job, so placing my request and interview questions here seemed to be a logical choice. If interested, please answer the questions below in detail. Thanks in advance!
1. Tell me a little about yourself and your experience (Name, company, responsibilities, and some projects you have worked on internationally)
2. What was the hardest part of working in another country?
3. Looking back, what would you have done differently to prepare yourself for that assignment?
4. What advice would you give to someone considering an international PM assignment? Saving Changes...
Some of the information for question 1 will break my confidential agreements, but I'll try to answer the others in a simple way.
2 - Cultural differences that mean Correct Management of Communications and adapt your leadership style to the Stakeholders.
3 - Led a project in your non-native language is not easy during the first meetings. Sometimes people don't understand your accent, and you have to double your efforts and improve your communication skills.
4 - Read about the business culture, the interest, the history of the country, if the project team speak a different language try to learn few words.
