Sources to Justify use of Standard Methods

I just received this request:

"I'm looking for a report from a recognized source [e.g. Gartner, SEI] that justifies the efficiency, risk reduction etc. in using a standard methodology/process."

Can someone point me in the right direction of material I can use in my response?
