Do you feel that an individual could work as a project manager or be given the role of a team leader with a CAPM certification? What's your experience? Saving Changes...
The short answer yes, the long answer is a bit more complicated.
What I can share is I first completed my Masters in Project Management but did not have the required hours for the PMP. Now, there are many people who get their PMP and "fluff" the required hours with the skill of a words smith. Integrity prevented me from doing that and I pursued my CAPM. My environment and leadership gave me the opportunity to become the lead PM in creating a small PMO.
The lack of a certification or having a CAPM does should not speak to your ability to perform in a team lead role.

I just successfully completed my Masters in Project Management and I don’t have the required hours to take the PMP either and I am struggling to get a Project Management position. After reading your post I realize that I can take the CAPM at least that would give me a better chance of getting a Junior/Associate Project Manager position to begin with. I can always work myself up from there and in the future sit for my PMP. Thanks again for sharing!

Yes Certification (PMP or CAPM) does equip a person with a wealth of knowledge regarding Project Management however the value of Practical Project Management Experience can never be underestimated.
A combination of both makes a more effective Project Manager.
The opportunity to apply the knowledge of PMP and CAPM in a daily job is what makes the PM more effective in delivering projects.
If I were a Business Leader, I would certainly give opportunity to someone with CAPM to become a Junior/Associate PM or Project Coordinator and let a more senior/experienced PM take them under their wing for coaching and mentoring. Saving Changes...

It depends on the organization and the size of the project. For large size projects, some companies tend to hire only candidates with extensive experience in PM and holders of PMP.
Other companies would consider CAPM candidates for PM jobs if the candidate have the required and minimum years of experience and work along with them to the next level.

Certification does not matter, we have PM/TL without CAPM/PMP certification, yet they are able to deliver and meet the project goals. Saving Changes...

I agree with my colleagues. The CAPM is not representative of the project manager's capability. It is only a designation, a recognition of a certain level of accomplishment achieved. It does not indicate limitations. Saving Changes...

The CAPM is a limited exam of the PMP required less experience. That doesn't make the person less capable.
It would have more value for the individual if it was like some professional title a full exam. And that when the required experience is complete and verified can be converted in a PMP

I'm a CAPM and cannot find a job in project management after 5 years of job searching. Many companies demand the PMP and/or 3 to 5 years experience for entry level work.
A more senior PM could lead several projects and delegate a smaller project or task to someone with the CAPM.
It's becoming apparent that the CAPM is one of the most difficult exams PMI has to offer.
And it's also one of the certifications that companies don't want because they view it as "too junior" for any credibility. Saving Changes...
