Hi,

I am currently working as a Business Anlayst , current domain Telecom. My responsibilities make me positioned at the centre of the triangle with Project Manager - Client - Team at 3 corners. My tasks include working on GAP Analysis Review, FUR creation and Review, Requirement Analysis, Issue Resolutions and Tracking, Client Communication , Media Savvy Articles writing , documentation etc.

I wanted views from all you guys here that is it a good line to make a career ahead or one should pick up some particular tool say Seibel CRM etc and get expertise on a particular domain.

If I wanna make my career as a perfect Business Analyst, what do you guys think that I should study and make myself strong.

I would Really appreciate your views

Hi vimit, telecom is a good domain and business analyst is a good career option, however to secure your place in the industry you should also consider learning seibel/CRM, Datwarehousing/ reporting tools,SAP/ business process engineering etc. that would make your place more secure in the industry.

I agree with this below anoymous post, specialise in a particular area Siebel/CRM/Datawarhousing to build up your skills and be a knowledge domain in a particular area, you can thenm progress from there. Another suggestion is going to www.iiba.com or get some BA certification to improve your skills, experience/credentials.

Also, you may consider getting a certification in IIBA. It is not quite as revered as a PMP, but I think it will grow in time. As for a focus area, I would recommend you look at anything regarding BI (Business Intelligence).

Other places you can discuss this kind of thing are on www.linkin.com where they have multiple Business Analyst groups. I also like www.modernanalyst.com which has a group on linkedin too.

Business Analyst's seem to be in demand for both generalized BA skills (eg. writing USE CASEs (in UML or not)) and in specific knowledge domains. Learning more about a domain like financial services or US Health care certainly cannot hurt.

Hi All

Was going through the posts., and wanted to share QAI has certifications for Business Analysts. They have one for entry level, which is called, CAPA (Certified Associate Business Analyst) & CSBA (Certified Software Business Analyst) for people with experience.

Both above certifications are much better and detailed than IIBA. Let me know if you require more information on these.

Kind Regards,
Julia
