Hi,

I'm preparing a blog entry about meetings, no more spoiler entry, only the title.

In order to do it properly, I'm collecting some information in two different pools entries.

---What are the average attendees in your meetings?

https://www.projectmanagement.com/polls/36...your-meetings--

And

---How many meetings do you attend during a regular work week.

https://www.projectmanagement.com/polls/36...ular-work-week-

I would appreciate if you can collaborate in those polls.

Also, feel free to share here the first thought that you have in your mind when you check your email and you have a meeting request.

Example one of my thought is "No, Anoooother meeting, no"

Well, meetings problem we have in Egypt overall is as follows:-

1) No clear detailed agenda most of the time
2) if there is a clear detailed agenda people don't stick to it
3) There is no facilitator to control the meeting
4) non relevant personnel are invited to attend wasting the company's time and money
5) discussions usually gets out of order
6) extensive use of phones and laptops and emails
7) destructive criticism

and the list goes on ....

Seif, thank you for your answer. Regarding your point 7 - Destructive Criticism, the criticisms, are something that as we are continually exposed (constructive and destructive)

To destructive criticism, the most advisable are to ignore and be aware that if we do not contribute anything in our life to improve it does not make sense to give them greater importance.

But take in mind that sometimes we can perceive a comment during a meeting as a destructive criticism, and really the peer had a lack of communication skills.

Hello Maria - I found your polls and answered the questions. As far as sharing how I feel when I receive another meeting request - usually grateful to have been included and excited about the opportunity. I have a passion around having more effective meetings and making sure I am the right person to be in attendance at each meeting requested. Thanks for the good thought provoking questions.
Just wanted to say I can relate to the sentiment about feeling grateful to have been included in the meeting. I think maintaining a positive attitude towards meetings is important. Being included means that the organizer/participants value your input. While meetings are often viewed as a waste of time, we probably learn the most by attending meetings and listening to experts discussing the topic at hand.

My first thought when getting a meeting request is 'what's that all about?'
Receiving a clear agenda with the meeting request is key to don't feel that we'll waste the time.

Hello Maria - I found your polls and answered the questions.Life between the meeting is full of mental worries in finding answers to the issues raised in the meeting and new issues likely to crop up during next round of meeting for which one has to prepare himself very well to satisfy the party raising the query.

I think one’s reaction to meetings depends largely on organizational culture. I worked at one place where management was reluctant to make decisions. Instead, they usually called meeting after meeting to talk about issues they could resolve with a simple decision. Some issues lingered in this way for months. We came to dread seeing meeting invites in our mailboxes because we were already overtasked, and we knew these meetings would waste our already limited time.
