I am an IT graduate, with a degree in Information Systems, starting out in one of the subsidiaries of De Beers Group. I would like to take the IT Project Management direction but have no idea of where to start in terms of a career path. Any pointers for fresh graduates Saving Changes...

Dear Lorato, congratulations on your graduation and joining De Beers. I would recommend you do three things within your first six months. First, discuss your IT Project Management aspirations with your immediate manager. De Beers is a great company and I am sure you have a good manager that you will get good counsel. Next, with the assistance of your manager, I would seek to meet with the highest level of IT executive at De Beers that you can in order to get his or her professional advice, perspectives on IT project management, and executive direction. You could write a considerate, well thought out letter, asking for a brief meeting, executive guidance and perspectives. Most IT executives I know would gladly do this and might even suggest lunch. And third, again with management assistance, I would seek to establish a mentor - a seasoned expert at De Beers that would like to and agree to mentor you. This is not your manager. You landed at a great company. I suspect De Beers hired a talented graduate. Good luck..! -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International Saving Changes...
