Hi,
I am a design manager working for an office furniture manufacturer. I am looking at whether or not to implement Project Management software into our design and development process.

All our design and development is internal.
We don't have a dedicated team, but use our existing factory resources when they are available.
Our design projects don't have specific deadlines or cost restraints.

I have looked into several PM software solutions and they all seem irrelevant to the way we work.
Does anyone have any advice?

Hi Peter -

You are a lucky man! "Our design projects don't have specific deadlines or cost restraints. " With no time or cost pressure on your design and development process, a formal PM tool would be irrelevant as you suggest.

Responders, like me, might be better able to help if you offered some insight into the types of issues you have with managing the current process.

There are tons of tools out there, but without know what your intentions are its difficult to make a coherent recommendation.

Kindest reagrds,

- Cris

It certainly sounds like you need something to manage work, rather than project. Try searching for work management software. You will be presented with many small, online tools that should better fit what you are looking for.

That doesn't sound like a project. It would go in research and development kind of work. Agree with Stephane, look for software to manage that kind of work. Or just a specific accounting codes for timesheet so you could evaluate cost of development for each product

Since the time and cost are not constraints then you need a Document Management System, configuration management and task management software

Thank you all for your suggestions. I shall have a look at the software you mention and see if that will help to keep everything organised.
