Question about PMO

Hi folks,
I am a total IT person and want to venture into Project Management. My company has a big PMO department for each line of business and it is getting quite popular. I am quite interested in this concept, but have some questions. How is PMO considered in the outside market? Is it just another ?Project Co-ordination? job? Is there a decent demand for this kind of skill-set? Any advice and suggestions on reviewing PMO opportunities is highly appreciated.

thanks

If you would like some independent proof of the PMO/project/program management career possibilites, please visit www.monster.com and enter project management in the search field. You will see pages and pages of job openings. The vast majority of these will report into some sort of a PMO organization if the hiring company is large enough. I have been in the project/program management field for over 15 years and have worked for large aerospace companies, mid-size technology companies and smaller software companies. All had some form of project management organization either already established or hired me to put one in place.

It is a career that is here to stay!
