I'm a Computer Science/Information Tech (majoring in Business Information Science) student in the Hague, the Netherlands. I am currently on internship (graduating) at a company in Zoetermeer.

My assignment is to give advice (in the form of a report/paper) on what step to do to further develop the concept SMT Digital Nervecenter (SND). The SND is now only a sort of intranet page with a few links to files and pages on the company network. The idea is to further develop the SND to function as a central place from which information from all over the company (Exact data, stuff on the fileserver, sales information, product information and anything else) can be found. First for SMT employees but possibly in the future for clients and vendors too.

I think SMT is looking for a portal like solution, based on what information I got from the person giving me the assignment (company mentor) and the current implementation of SND. My company mentor was talking about integrating applications but I think he means just extracting data from those applications and putting the data on SND (realtime I suppose). Based on these conclusions I am thinking of looking for Enterprise Information Portals (found that term in a recent book I have, and on a few websites). It's pretty hard to find information about EIP's though, is it such a Saving Changes...

2 -- there is quite a bit of information available if you google -- enterprise information portals -- did you do that?

Take a look at the software package called Clarity. The vendor is Niku Corp. in Redwood City, California, USA. It mixes portal technology with project/program management AND collaboration tools. It also sits on a very stable architecture of J2EE. Lots of reporting options without having to ever go to a J2EE programmer. Saving Changes...
